single crown

Clinical case of a single crown on a natural tooth, developed with a focus on precise marginal adaptation, functional anatomy, and esthetic integration. The workflow began with intraoral scanning, followed by a careful evaluation of the tooth preparation respecting the path of insertion, finish line design, and available prosthetic space.

DSD 3SHAPE

Patient dissatisfied with the esthetics of the maxillary central incisor, which presented a composite resin restoration with altered shape, texture, and harmony in relation to the adjacent teeth. Before any clinical intervention, I chose to perform a Digital Smile Design (DSD) to evaluate facial analysis, dental proportions, and smile line.

Bite Plate

For the digital design of the splint, the following items are mandatory: Upper and lower intraoral scan files (STL format)Bite registration (scanned or digital)Clinical case informationType of splint requested (upper or lower night guard, Michigan splint, flat plane splint, etc.)Any specific observations, if applicable (muscle pain, TMD, severe wear, etc.)

Wax up

After collecting extraoral and intraoral photographs, performing intraoral scanning, and conducting occlusal analysis, the case was planned using CAD software, allowing the virtual construction of the ideal dental anatomy while respecting proportions, smile line, occlusal plane, and anterior guidance. The digital wax-up made it possible to preview the final outcome, assess volume, shape, length, and integration with the periodontal tissues before any definitive intervention.

Single Crown

In this case, a complete digital workflow was performed for the rehabilitation of tooth 45, from intraoral scanning to crown design using exocad. Workflow steps: • Digital design of anatomy and occlusal adjustments • Precise marginal adaptation and proximal contact definition • 3D printed model for fit verification • Milling of the lithium disilicate (E.max) crown • Try-in and final cementation The final result achieved excellent marginal fit, natural esthetics, and full restoration of masticatory function while respecting biomechanical and periodontal principles. Digital dentistry provides greater precision, predictability, and clinical safety at every stage of treatment.

Inlay

After clinical evaluation and careful assessment of the remaining tooth structure, a conservative indirect restoration was indicated, aiming to preserve as much healthy tissue as possible while restoring function and biomechanics.

Waxup

In this case, I received a patient presenting multiple clinical challenges: • Severe bruxism • Advanced tooth wear • Tooth #14 rotated (malpositioned) • Gingival recessions • Occlusal disharmony • Functional and esthetic compromise The treatment planning was conducted through digital wax-up, using CAD tools to virtually simulate the rehabilitation and establish a new smile design based on functional and biomechanical principles. More than esthetics, the primary goals were: ✔️ Reestablish functional guidance ✔️ Improve occlusal load distribution ✔️ Reorganize the occlusal plane ✔️ Propose new dental contours respecting periodontal limitations ✔️ Increase predictability of the final outcome Digital wax-up allows precise evaluation of proportions, volume, insertion path, and overall harmony — reducing risks and increasing safety for both clinician and patient.

Single Crown Rehabilitation – Tooth 47 with Mesial

The patient presented with a mesially inclined tooth #47, showing absence of mesial proximal contact, leading to food impaction, localized periodontal compromise, and occlusal imbalance. The main challenge of this case was to re-establish: • Proper proximal contact • Functional anatomy • A compatible path of insertion considering the tooth inclination • Posterior occlusal harmony The case was digitally planned using CAD software, allowing: Strategic correction of proximal anatomy Precise control of the contact point Optimized emergence profile Balanced occlusal force distribution
